These are mostly outdoor pieces in a plank style that stands upright or in a weathervane style that allows the piece to move in the wind. the metal leaf adds an interesting note to the landscape and seems to gather light on overcast days. They are mostly simplified ideas of things I've seen in Nature and reducing or editing down to try to catch some aspect from the original I found interesting.
A new series of paintings I started in 2020. The qualities of color and light have always been important, but in this series I have crafted 3 different palettes of gray paint scales using Spinel Black and Titanium White as well as Ivory Black and Titanium White and Mars Black and Radiant White. Using a scale of 1-11, pure white and pure black being the 1 and the 11, I mixed the paints and then discarded the 1 and the 11 or the pure white and pure black in the palette of paints used. I thought by moving away from color I could emphasize the compositional aspects of the paintings and find harmony in the tones.
